and Sun Dogs
Original painting 20" x 28", Oil on board, 1993
Myriads of minute ice crystals in the cold calm dry air of polar areas refract the sunlight into the atmospheric phenomena known as parhelia, mock suns or 'sun dogs', equivalent to the formation of a rainbow elsewhere in the world. A dog team emerges through the misty air on the inland plateau ice cap some 160 km south of the British Antarctic Survey base at Halley Bay, situated on the eastern coast of the Weddell Sea.
Huskies and Sun Dogs is now on display at the British Antarctic Survey Headquarters in Cambridge.
Image size on print is 10.5" x 16"
