Base H - Signy
Original painting 20" x 30", Oil on Canvas Board, 1997
This painting was done to mark the 50 years of continuous operation of British Antarctic Survey's biological station on Signy Island, South Orkney Islands. It shows the base huts besides Factory Cove and beyond the ice in the bay, the British Antarctic Survey supply vessel RRS Bransfield arriving for the annual summer relief.
Beyond the open water lies the majestic mountains of Coronation Island, discovered by George Powell on December 6 1821, and named after the recent coronation of King George IV
